drop kdm plymouth patch?

we have a patch for kdm that is supposed to enable clean transition from
plymouth to kdm with KMS (i.e. no flickering from plymouth to kdm)

it however causes:
https://launchpad.net/bugs/886946
and apparently also
https://launchpad.net/bugs/554484

so since we do not use kdm by default anymore I wonder if we should simply
drop the patch. opinions?
