+1, and I presume it is for the kmail in something after Wheezy, presumably 
that in Stretch?

I do see where Akonadi is a dependency for something(s?) in kmail, guessing 
maybe calendar related functions.  Maybe if you don't use some of those 
functions, kmail will work without Akonadi in whatever version of kde / Debian 
the PIM dependency chart is for?

If that same dependency exists in kmail 1.13.7 (KDE 4.8.4 / Debian Wheezy), 
kmail works just fine (afaict) with Akonadi disabled (it is installed).
