powerpc kwifimanager: not working?

Has anyone got the airport card to work under kubuntu using the 
kwifimanager? I assumed that since the kwifimanager is by default in 
the live cd it would work, but at least from the livecd it doesn't seem 
to work (can't get the encryption option out of 'off' no matter what).

If it is not possible, is there an alternative wifi manager to use with 
airport cards?
