K-Menu problem (was: Re: Stupid newbie question :))

Hi, I've had Kubuntu installed for a couple of weeks.  I've added stuff 
to my menu before, but last night I was trying to add some programs to 
the menu and I couldn't save anything.  When I clicked on the save icon, 
or chose "File">"Save", nothing happened. I tried numerous times, 
closing and re-opening the program, but no changes I make are taking 
effect.  Any ideas what could be happening?
