Problem with extern monitor

Hi:

My friend installed kubuntu in his laptop (Acer TM 290). But he have a problem
when conect a external monitor to his laptop. The resolution of the laptop's
monitor is 1024x768, and when conect a extern monitor is 640x480. He want
change the configuration of the extern monitor.If he run xcfg the changes
don't make it.
