no dcop calls for basic information from apps?

I've just been learning about dcop and it looks like a really cool
system. So I got the idea, why not make a little perl script that
outputs my current playing music, if I have new mail, new posts in my
rss feeds or any other inforamation, and then have the phosphor
screensaver run that?
So, the result is that I now have a nice screensaver that displays the
current track from amarok, but I can't get the data I want from my other
apps. It seems like the dcop calls just aren't there.
Like getting current unread posts from akregator or new messages from
kopete, or the number of unread messages from korn. I've looked through
kdcop and can't seem to find the calls I need. Am I missing something?
if these features just aren't implimented in the dcop interface why not?
is there another way to script this stuff?
