Question about broadband

Also the model of broadband modem used and particularly the connection 
protocol used by the ISP. 

When I signed up for ADSL broadband with my local telco,  I followed the 
instructions in the ADSL-Howto, but couldn't get properly connected. It 
turned out that in their case, most of what the howto told me to do was 
irrelevant, since the ISP used DHCP rather than the PPPoE assumed by the 
howto.
