you probably mean 2GB RAM.
more ram is better.
a 64 bit system will be able to run both 32 and 64 bit software.
64bit software support is getting better al the time so 64bit hardware
is a good investment.
i'm running a 64bit ubuntu "server" on a cheap asrock k8nf4g motherboard
and all hardware works out of the box.
