new in kubuntu

I'm not one of "you people" in this thread, but I'm browsing /usr/share/ 
to learn more about the how the system works.  When I want to see the 
contents of a bunch of files, it's easier to browse around with dolphin 
or konqi and open scripts/readme's with the built-in viewer (or kate 
for syntax highlighting) then to cat/less.  Is that not recommended in 
Kubuntu?
