selecting GRUB option for next reboot

Hello,

back when I used LILO (seems so long in the past...), KDE's logout could 
easily let me choose the booting kernel/OS and reboot into it, without 
prompting. 

Well, KDM also supports GRUB, and it supposedly lets me choose options, but 
they are jsut ignored and I am dumped into GRUB's menu (with default boot 
option highlighted). Does this thing actually work with GRUB for anyone?

Oh, I am using Edgy 6.10 up-to-date.
