I had so much frustration with the exact problem that you had that I returned
to using a serial sync cable. While connection configuration is a common
problem mentioned on the kdepim-users list, it seems that those of us with an
Ubuntu 2.6 kernel can do everything suggested and still have problems.
BTW, after the initial sync, which takes a very long time via serial cable,
serial syncing works flawlessly.
