Turning off services.

Hi All,

for various reasons I have several services such as PostgreSQL and apache  
running on my system. I needed them at the time (testing a LAMP  
application for a friend to see if it waas suitable for his needs). I no  
longer need them at the moment and would like to shut them off without  
deleting them.  I presume this is just a matter of removing/disabling the  
/etc/rc.d files? Or is there a simpler method?
