Wierd login problem with kdm on Dapper (no letters accepted)

I've just upgraded my iBook G3 from Breezy to Dapper, and now I can't
login from the display manager as it's not accepting letters from the
keyboard. The username is still shown as it's remembered but when I type
the password, only the non-letters appear to be registering (and I can't
type any letters in the username box either). I've not yet had a chance
to see if it is kdm-specific or not.

Any ideas?
