KMIX broken

I just did a dist-upgrade to Dapper. There were several things broken
afterward, but I think I've fixed all but one.

I no longer have any sound. The kmix icon shows the red "X" over it, and
an attempt to configure it shows no mixers available. I'm running a
Soundblaster Live card.

Can anyone suggest a fix to get my sound back
