Yep he's correct.  The directory listings Didier gave are correct for Kubuntu.  
~/Mail is generally the default for SUSE, and I think Red Hat, but Debian 
switched somewhere to putting mail in ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail.  Which I like 
better because now everything is on one directory.

I think the default for a new install is iCalendar  for calendar format.
