newbie: dapper: skim and latin characters

Henri is my name :)
i don't use skim but scim
I am french so my keyboard is french...
but it's true I use scim for chinese
my wife is chinese...
We used xp but i got read of it and installed kubuntu (kub)
So I want to find out if I can really have scim on kub as good
as njstar on xp...
I tried to install njstar on wine but i didn't sucess yet :)
Kwrite and kath don't work either here..
kopete does... but i miss some pictogramms
