Files disappearing from mounted partitions

No, there was certainly no pwer outage as I've been sitting here on
this machine all day (and then some). And I did reboot at soon as I
saw the files were missing from the first of the mounts- I thought
that I accidentally erased them and I wanted to umount to partition
before things got overwritten in the hopes of recovering. So rebooting
isn't always the answer.
