xmms crashes after stopping for any reason

kubuntu dapper & xmms 1.2.10+cvs20050809-4ubuntu5
From konsole I run xmms;
xmms

and stop for any reason and any length of time, and then it crashes
with this in the shell;

Aborted
Any ideas as to why?
