It's not easier if you're going to have a conversation.  It's convenient for
businesses that will treat email as being exactly like an exchange of
letters - where each letter gets attached to the end.  Top-posting on
usenet will mostly just get you ignored.  otoh, quoting 200 lines and then
putting an answer at the end isn't very helpful either.

I'm not sure whether you answered this.  In any case, try removing ALL of
those modelines.

It's still unclear whether you really want 1400x1050, 1280x1024 or both.  In
any case, why don't you start with a _minimal_ xorg.conf.  No "Modeline"
lines in the Monitor section, just the one Display subsection and only the
Modes you actually care about - there's no point in having 1280x960 if
you're never going to use it.  Specify Modes as:

       Modes  "1400x1050" "1280x1024" "1024x768"

and any other sizes you really care about.  Restart X.  If you have any
modes that aren't working, _then_ try adding the output from gtf for that
resolution to the monitor section.  Change the Modes value, for that
resolution to include the _60 (ie, Modes "1400x1050_60" "1280x1024"...)
that's provided by gtf.
