I'm using a hp laptop and the battery monitor is doing a very good job :)
I setup klaptop to switch the battery states plugged and running on battery, 
so the life of the battery is pretty good and matches with Windows battery 
life time. I setup to "performance" when plugged in the wall and "userspace" 
when running on battery. If you want to have more time think in 
use "powersave" profile performance
