Thanks for the suggestions to fix this problem. I simply did 
as suggested

<--------  /etc/default/avahi-daemon  --------
# 0 = don't start, 1 = start
AVAHI_DAEMON_START=0
--------------------------------------------->

rebooted

and now there are no connection problems.

so should I also employ those other suggestions for IPv6 
too? or just leave well alone? ;)

I have had a very similar long term problem on PCLinuxOS 
(and on other distros too) which I didn't get fixed. I did 
try just disabling the avahi service after first being told 
about avahi, but IIRC that broke the internet. :(
