Well, I installed Gutsy as a fresh install (my /home and /usr
partitions are not formatted and preserved) and I haven't had any
problem with it on my PC. Yesterday I installed the PPC version on my
PowerMac G4 without any problems - so far.
I have read of problems, but its my suspicion that these arise from
hardware incompatibilties. I built my own PC from bits salvaged from
Freecycle ( http://uk.freecycle.org/) and its AMD Athlon based, 32 bit,
and has IDE drive(s) and not SATA, and it works fine with Gutsy.
I don't know how Gutsy affects laptops. Mine is provided as part of my
Disabled Student allowance, but the warranty will be voided if I put
anything other than Windows on it for 4 years. But again, I suspect
any problems that will occur will be as a result of hardware problems.
In Linux we are all in a certain sense, software testers. Our
experience is all we can feedback into the community, and its only when
that experience is unique that we can say there is something new for
developers to watch for. I am not offended by your describing problems
you face: its the only way to produce a better OS.
