Well, I presume you don't want one running (K)Ubuntu repositories, but
if not, take a look at Pioneer Linux.
The alternative to those are true Debian-based distros, and from these
I would suggest Debian itself (but that defaults to Gnome, although you
CAN download both Gnome and KDE. I see as from release 7, MEPIS has
gone back to using true Debian repositories, so that would be my choice
using KDE (its an easier installer than Debian too).
I don't have enough experience of either distro to see if it suffers
from the suspend/resume problems of Kubuntu, but its worth a try...
