Broken konqueror (actually kfmclient)

In the past week or so, I can no longer open a URL from pretty well anywhere
except the address box in konqueror.

If I click on a link in KMail, I get a popup titled "Sorry - kfmclient" and
the content is "Could not find the program '%u'".  Even from a command line
in konsole: "kfmclient exec http://localhost/" gives me the same popup
(but "kfmclient exec ." correctly opens a tab in my current konqueror
showing the current directory).

The only thing I _know_ I've messed with is installing kde4 - but that's
supposed to be using entirely separate libraries.  Any ideas?
