Unable to connect to freenode

So I thought I'd log in and kibbitz.

It's been at least 10 years since I last used IRC (actually, now I think
about it, probably more like 15), but I quickly created an IRC account in
Kopete and tried to connect. And received:

I tried several times to connect, and it said the same thing each time.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get past this?
