What i would do to set up a DSL conection which uses as username and password 
is first install knemo. This will show you whether you ethernet connection 
has a IP address given by the DSL router or network. If that is done, you 
will need to open a terminal and run sudo pppoeconf. You might have to first 
run sudo and enter your linux password and then run pppoeconf.

It will ask you for a username and password. Put your dsl username and 
password in there. Just press enter until you get these 2 and then complete 
the rest of the wizard. It will ask you if you want to start it at boot time. 
Say yes.
