intro and grub question

In a terminal, you can use "sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop", and all
of the KDE software is installed.  Or you can use your favorite package
management program - but I don't even know what's available with the
default Ubuntu install. Then you should be able to just select KDE as an
option in the GDM logon screen.
