ipw3945 not connecting on bootup

The only other issue I have with this new dell is the intel wireless nic.  I'm 
sure there's a way around this one, I just haven't found it yet.

The problem is it will not establish a connection and pull a DHCP address on 
boot up.  After the machine gets up and running I can "ifdown eth1" 
then "ifup eth1"and it works every time.

I'm sure there's a config issue somewhere, any help would be appreciated.
(hotplug it maybe?)
