Kubuntu useless for ripping CDs

I've ripped all of mine to Ogg without a hitch.  I needed a way to back them 
up because my wife tended to take the originals with her in the car.  
(leaving them on the seat, in the floor, etc.)
I've used K3b, and grip, and once just from plain old Konqueror.
