Getting Audacity to Work

I suggest you mute the MIC and leave the line-in green. I don't think 
it's your sample rate that causing the trouble but Audacity is set up to 
take sound from the MIC line first so mute this and hopefully it will 
try the line-in next.

When checking your mixer/volume control make sure you are using the 
record/sound-in options not the play options.

Just how are you testing Audacity? I suggest you play audio CD and if 
this sounds through your speakers _ what kind of speakers? - then start 
up Audacity and select the line-in option on the center dialog box and 
press the record button. If this doesn't work select the CD option in 
the dialog box and try again.
