Is the boot drive different from the "master" drive? If it's the same
drive, the fact that it gets far enough to (try to) start the firewall
probably means the disk is "seen" fine.

Is networking different in the "new" motherboard? As in different
number of network adapters, or perhaps a network adapter for which there
is no driver/module available (unlikely) or one that needs its module
added to the /etc/modules file?
If you can boot with the single-user option (called "recovery mode" in
the boot menu), try executing this on the command line:
ifconfig -a
and this:
lspci -v
