No sound cmedia6501 excluding amarok and kaffeine

I had the same problem.  Only Kaffeine had sound.  No Notifications, no 
flash sound, no BBC Radio 3...

I "fixed" it by choosing "OSS" instead of "ALSA" in the audio configs.  
I tried all the ones in the list: alsa, artsd, esd, jack and oss and 
only oss worked.  I have no idea why.  Even now, I can't play certain 
trailers on the Tiscali site.

That used to happen to me in Edgy.  Sound would crash with an error.  
Sometimes needed 3 or 4 tries to get it to work.  I haven't had that 
problem with Feisty, though.
