Indeed, Amarok and kaffeine both use Xine engine.

Xine is SUPPOSED TO support arts.

I don't have arts in my xine engine driver
options. I have: auto, alsa, oss, pulseaudio,
and file.
Are you using feisty?
Are others using feisty see arts in their list?
Of them, I think only pulseaudio mix multiple
programs output to play them simultaneously.
Pulse audio is suggested to replace artsd and esd
in the following spec:

I have been able, with some work, to use pulseaudio, but because
KDE sound system (in system settings) does not seems to support
it, then it is not so usefull.
I repeat to people using feisty, do you have arts in amarok-xine
and kaffeine-xine driver options?
