Video Problem WMV

Tried this (suggestion below) and got this in reply:
 edit /etc/apt/sources.list
Warning: unknown mime-type for "/etc/apt/sources.list" -- using 
"application/*"
Error: no write permission for file "/etc/apt/sources.list"
