that's probably an X issue, a KDE problem, or a bash problem (weird, but
yes, bash profiles did this once with me!)
can you remember what packages were last installed? also, it might not
be related to the update, the problem occurred because of something you
did else.
if an X package has been installed, go to a console from the login
screen and run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg"
have you changed any of these files in your home directory, ".bashrc"
".profile" or any similar bash settings file? if so, either restore a
backup, fix it, or simply delete it.
