My "/tmp" directory filled up 64GB virtually overnight!

Hi,
I am using Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE 3.5.9. Dolphin is version 0.9.2. The kernel is 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP.
I have my disk partitioned into three sections; swap, root and home.
Yesterday my 73GB root partition had the following properties;
- Used 6.2GB.
- Available 64GB.
Today my 73GB root partition had the following properties;
- Used 70GB.
- Available 0GB.
After looking through the root partition I found that the "/tmp" directory had ballooned up in size to 64GB.
The only "new" task that I performed yesterday was mounting a truecrypt volume and copying 20GB of data from the truecrypt volume into my home partition. The truecrypt volume was on an external disk and is not currently mounted. I used Dolphin to do the copying.
Anyway, today my "/tmp" directory has the following listing:
:/tmp$ ls -la
total 68
drwxrwxrwt 16 root root 4096 2008-07-23 10:30 .

And within "/tmp/kde-brian" is the 64GB. It had the following listing:
:/tmp/kde-brian$ ls -la
total 66266108
drwx------ 2 brian brian 4096 2008-07-23 10:26 .

lrwxrwxrwx 1 brian brian 31 2008-07-20 18:44 ksycoca -> /var/tmp/kdecache-brian/ksycoca
As things stand at this point I've deleted the 64GB from "/tmp/kde-brian".
And, now my 73GB root partition has the following properties it's had for the last several months:
- Used 6.2GB.
- Available 64GB.
For me this is an interesting enough Linux episode to question it. I would like to know if anyone has a suggestion on what I can do to discover why this directory blossomed into 64GB virtually overnight.
Thank you for your time.
Brian
