First, you have to enable POP access for you GMail account. Login
to your account via the web and click on the settings link at
the top right of the window, then click on the Forwarding &
POP/IMAP tab. Select POP for all mail and save your settings.

In Kmail open the POP dialog for your GMail account and set the
host to pop.gmail.com, the port to 995, and on the Extras tab
select Use "SSL for secure mail download".

Then open the sending dialog for the same account and set the
host to smtp.gmail.com and the port to 465. Set the "Server
requires authentication" checkbox and the Login name to
user at gmail.com. On the Security tab select SSL encryption.

You can also have Kmail save your passwords for you.
