The discussion is right on topic.  The sound issue is on the side
and is not critical to me.  I brought it up as others have noted
that the new kernel broke sound interfaces.

My sincere thanks to all that have contributed and I'll try to
reproduce the things that occurred.  I am probably the only
person in the universe that has reloaded 8.04 as many times
as I have.  Too much patience is not a virtue if you have time
to kill.  :-)
