Look...   just use your 'steven'  userid and whatever is 'steven's' password 
and use sudo and whatever you do from there is your choice.

As long as you know 'steven'  s password, the system will work like it does 
for anyone else.  (even me even though I have root windows available)

I think we've wasted enough time on this because we are not communicating.

I notice no one else has jumped in so either what I am telling you is right, 
or they have tired of the conversation.
