Thats odd, just having a look in knoderc, under the section 
name [MAILSERVER]
is an entry for user with my email address as the user name.
(this is for a now unavailable nntp server)

But I do also see an entry where you say in the nntp 
directory, info file for user too. Mine is blank as I don't 
have an nntp service from my isp, just the gmane service 
which doesn't require a 'user' to access.
