It's not an assumption, it's a guess based on insufficient data from you. 
Quite simply, I can imagine no way that can happen - and I have enough
experience to have done it myself - without restoring a /etc/passwd file
from another system.

For heaven's sake - google!  Why should _we_ have to be able to dredge it
up - it's common and well known.

That's got nothing to do with the above.   Intel can't do 3D on dual
monitors in X for new or old users.

How can you be complaining about lack of functionality in KDE, and then
complaining that I tell you how to make the settings in KDE?  While I
usually give command line solutions for things that can be done
appropriately at the command line, just because they're so much easier to
demonstrate completely in a text medium, this is a KDE issue, so use the
KDE System Settings.
