Card readers

I am looking to buy a multiple card reader to download my photos from 
the cards of the various cameras I own. When searching for an internet 
purchase, all the card readers are listed as being "windows & Mackintosh 
compatable". Is there a way of knowing if  card reader can be read by 
Linux (Kubuntu in my case)? My gut feeling says there shouldn't be a 
problem but I want to be sure.
