This worked for me. I hadn't checked in Jaunty's FF3. The link Ian gave 
(and thanks for that, very useful):

  http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

showed that Java doesn't work in Jaunty's FF3 without installing sun-
java?-plugin.

Shouldn't this be flagged somewhere? Happy to raise it, but no idea 
where.
