I suspect you may have heard the resolution to the problem. If not, it
had to do with the ATA drive that I installed to transfer data from a
storage partition to my new SATA. It also had Intrepid installed on it
on another partition. And, that OS also was titled /dev/sda1, just like
the Jaunty installation on the SATA drive. Apparently, because the ATA
drive had not been changed to slave, when the crash happened, it was in
primary position and was read for an OS. Having the same /dev/sda1
identifier caused the confusion. Nigel Henry was following the progress
of this problem and noticed my concerns after the project was pretty
much put to bed. He suggested I remove the cable and power supply of
the old HDD and attempt boot to Jaunty. It worked, problem solved.
Nonetheless, your last email to me suggesting confusion, because as you
said you thought I had Jaunty installed and the evidence was that I had
Intrepid caused me to think about that old HDD. I never formatted and
set it up as my back-up HDD like I planned, so when the crash happened,
there it was with an OS to stop at. Thanks again for the help, my
friend. I am so very happy that I did not have this as a problem that
would be on my mind without conclusion.
Steven
