Desktop Video Recording

does anyone on this list know of a decent video recording program?
i tried a few, most of them act up when i try some desktop effect,
like the desktop cube, very horrible framerate, might reach 1 per 3
seconds sometimes.
i understand that desktop recording is resource intensive, but still, i
think there should be one that can work decentl.
what i'm looking for is a program that can shoot the desktop effects
properly. the output format is either ogv, some easily convertible
codec, or straight away a codec nativel supported by a windows user
(the intended receiver of my video), ie, MPEG/AVI/WMV (i doubt there's
one that outputs WMV ;-))
using Kubuntu Intrepid with KDE 4.2.
computer specs: CPU: 3.0 GHz with HT, 1.5G RAM, Video: nVidia GeForce
8500 (1G VRAM), using nvidia's latest driver from their website.
hard disk space is not a problem, i can let it store video on a
partition with 40 GB space, though i'm only running it for like 20
seconds maximum, and i prefer to get a frame rate of at least 10 FPS.
thanks for any help :-)
