Actually, I think that's not true.

Skype is compatible with Skype, and so only runs on platforms that Skype
supports (which fortunately includes Linux).

Ekiga supports H.323 and SIP - open standards - and is compatible with any
other software supporting H.323 or SIP.  The plus side is that you can
pretty well guarantee that such software is available for any system you
can name.  The down side is that none of that software is as ubiquitous as
Skype :-)
