Openoffice 3.1 on Hardy 8.04

No matter how I try to make it "look good" after upgrade to Openoffice 
3.1 on a Hardy 8.04 (KDE 3.5 that is) I am failing dismally. The 
openoffice...kde package is gone so no integration with file 
opening/selection any longer, I get a funny "dark grey" background on 
menus and options etc.

Is this the same for everyone or related to KDE 3.5 or am I missing 
something?

I also tried installing the debs from Openoffice.org site but was not 
much happier. Am back on 3.0 for now
