That sounds like a file association problem in Dolphin, you should be
able to solve this with a right click on the file in Dolphin and
choose OpenOffice as the application to open with.
But you should change the default file association in kcontrol (I
assume you are still using KDE 3.5 in Hardy, right?) where you can set
OpenOffice to default for these file types (don't forget to remove
ark, though). It sometimes needs a new login to take effect.
