Kubuntu 8.04.2, black screen when log out

You could try to edit (as root) the file:
/etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc . In the the section:

[X-:*-Core]
AllowNullPasswd=true
AllowShutdown=All
NoPassEnable=false
NoPassUsers=
ServerArgsLocal=-br -nolisten tcp
ServerCmd=/usr/bin/X
TerminateServer=true

The last line solved it for me. But beware, there are two sections, 
almost the same, it's the one with the " : "
Of course it will not work until you logout/login again.
