Yes, by the 'elephant sequence' i mean using three fingers holding
down the [<Alt><SysRq>] + <r>, <s>, <el>, <i>, <u>, <b> (Raising
Skinny Elephants Is Utterly Boring). That way the system will sync
everything and then reboot, even if one can't get a console or
terminal. I'm not sure if it will run shutdown scripts, but it was
my ultimate rescue many times, when I succeeded in screwing my
system up by messing around in arcane commands. It's still my last
resort before pulling the plug.
